My Body Is Like George Clooney

This post will make sense, I promise. Okay, I think it will. Listen, George Clooney is a talented actor. (A very attractive talented actor. Can I get an amen?) Anyway, he has played many roles throughout his lifetime, and he’s played most of them really, really well.

What does this have to do with my body? Well, yesterday I had the misfortune pleasure of going bathing suit shopping. At 27 1/2 weeks pregnant, this is a little different than any bikini shopping I’ve done in the past. At first, I really let it get me down. I mean, hello, I look like an over-inflated pool toy. (Side note: I’m not carrying the baby in my thighs, so why did they have to turn into tree trunks?)

It didn’t help that I remembered a photo I had taken on my last bathing suit shopping trip. (The sad thing is, I judged my body so harshly back then. I wasn’t “muscular enough”. I know now to love what ya got!) Nothing like a trip down pre-pregnancy body memory lane. It was painful. My feelings were hurt. I felt like a failure for allowing my “baby weight” to take over my entire body.

But you know what? My body is like an actor. I’m just playing a different role now. Before, I was training my body for speed, strength, and fitness. Now, I’m training my body to build a life. Post-pregnancy, I’ll be working toward sustaining a life.

Will I ever look the same as I did in my debut “role”? Who knows. But I do know that I’m on my way to a very rewarding experience. Who needs an Emmy or an Oscar? I’ll have a family. A life to support. I’ll be a mom. Do I want to “get my body back”? Um, hell yeah. But no matter what my body ends up looking like, I’ll know it has done some amazing things. It doesn’t get much cooler than that. (So eat your heart out, Clooney!)

Basically what I’m saying is… you better rep that body! You are beautiful. Be confident. Know that each day you wake up, your body is working for you. Which also means you better do your best to work for it, too! Every workout, every meal, and every moment is a chance to treat your body with respect. The better you treat it, the better it will treat you!

Have you treated your body well today? Tell your body how sexy and powerful it is right now! 😉

March Foodie Penpals

March 30th. That day means a lot to me right now. First, the month of March is almost over. When did that happen? Second, as of 2:30 today I’m on Spring Break! I love my students, but I needed some time to recoup. Third, it’s time to share my very first treats from my Foodie Penpal! My box was sent to me by the lovely Jane from The Healthy Beehive.

Jane sent me the most amazing stash of snacks. I had never tried any of the brands she sent me, so I was very excited to dig in. She sent a delicious peach dressing, peanut butter filled pretzels, coconut macaroons, an oatmeal cookie, some seaweed snacks, honey energy sticks, tea, and homemade cheese. Yes, homemade. She’s good like that.

Along with my box, Jane sent a very nice card! There is something to be said about receiving a handwritten card in the mail. Beats the heck out of email in my opinion. (Note to self: occasionally send people letters.)

So far my favorite snacks have been the Good Health Peanut Butter Filled Pretzels. I keep mentioning that I’ve been craving peanut butter. Well after eating this entire bag, I’m craving peanut butter AND pretzels. So glad she sent these!

The second runner up is definitely the Hail Merry Coconut Macaroons. And get this, I hate coconut. Let me rephrase that: I loathe the stuff. Either this pregnancy has changed my texture preferences or the coconut in these was very finely shredded. Either way, they are so good. The serving size of two didn’t fly with me, however. I kept digging in!

I still need to eat a few of the items, like the honey sticks (I’m kind of hoarding them. I really like honey.) and the tea. It’s been SO hot so I’ve been waiting for a day when I’m not already sweating to brew it up! 🙂 I can’t wait to try it, though!

Overall, I am so happy that I took part in Foodie Penpals! I definitely lucked up with being paired up with Jane. She knows her stuff. Definitely take some time to check out her blog!

Also check out Megan’s awesome blog at Country Cleaver. I sent her a box this month, so I hope she liked it. I can’t wait to participate again, but I think I’ll be waiting until after Baby M arrives. Things are getting hectic around here!

Some information about Foodie Penpals:

-On the 5th of every month, you will receive your penpal pairing via email. It will be your responsibility to contact your penpal and get their mailing address and any other information you might need like allergies or dietary restrictions.
-You will have until the 15th of the month to put your box of goodies in the mail. On the last day of the month, you will post about the goodies you received from your penpal
-The boxes are to be filled with fun foodie things, local food items or even homemade treats! The spending limit is $15. The box must also include something written. This can be anything from a note explaining what’s in the box, to a fun recipe…use your imagination!
-You are responsible for figuring out the best way to ship your items depending on their size and how fragile they are. (Don’t forget about flat rate boxes!)
Foodie Penpals is open to blog readers as well as bloggers. If you’re a reader and you get paired with a blogger, you are to write a short guest post for your penpal to post on their blog about what you received. If two readers are paired together, neither needs to worry about writing a post for that month.
-Foodie Penplas is open to US & Canadian residents.  Please note, Canadian Residents will be paired with other Canadians only. We’ve determined things might get too slow and backed up if we’re trying to send foods through customs across the border from US to Canada and vice versa. So, I’m going to keep two separate lists and match US w/ US and Canada w/ Canada!

If you’re interested in participating for April, please CLICK HERE to fill out the participation form and read the terms and conditions. You will also find contact information on that page for the UK branch of Foodie Penpals if you’re a blogger across the pond!

You must submit your information by April 4th as pairings will be emailed on April 5th!

Baby M: 27 Weeks

Welcome to the THIRD TRIMESTER, Baby M! I feel like we’ve come a long way. Just 13 more weeks to go!

What’s up with baby? According to MSN Health, “By this first week of the third trimester, your baby looks similar to what he or she will look like at birth, except thinner and smaller. The lungs, liver, and immune system still need to fully mature, but if born now, your baby would have a very good chance of surviving. As hearing continues to develop, your baby may start to recognize your voice as well as your partner’s. Sounds may be muffled, though, because the ears are still covered with vernix, the thick waxy coating that protects the skin from becoming chapped by the amniotic fluid.” I hope he knows my voice. Maybe I’ll start teaching him some lessons early on! 😉 He now weighs 2 or more pounds and is around 14 1/2 inches long.

Weeks: 27

Total Weight Gain: Unknown. (Officially 25 pounds at 26 weeks!)

My Body: I’m starting to feel really pregnant. This might sound weird, but my skin feels extremely tight around my waist. If I’m going to get stretch marks, I feel like they’ll start showing up soon. I still have about half of my belly button left, though! I wonder how much longer until I lose it… (Can you tell I had a belly button ring in middle/high school? How good would that look now? ;))

Maternity Clothes: Must. Go. Shopping.

Cravings: Roasted veggies with goat cheese! I made them the other night, and now I want them at EVERY meal. (Still obsessed with peanut butter and hot sauce, too.)

Sleep: Elusive. My lower back has started aching during the night. It’s torture! I’ve tried sleeping in the craziest positions, but nothing has helped. Any advice?!

Baby Items Bought/Received: While not a “baby item”, we did receive our first invitation to one of our baby showers. It’s baseball themed and the invitation is a ticket. Freaking CUTE!

Best Baby Moment: I haven’t had a best “moment”, but I have been feeling especially close to Baby M lately. I catch myself patting him and telling him things. I feel crazy. It was also nice to run our first 5k “together” this past weekend! 🙂

Goals: Sleep. I just want to sleep. My goal for this past Friday was to pass my glucose test. I haven’t heard back, so I’m assuming I’m in the clear. Let’s hope!

Worries: This week I’ve been way too busy to sit around worrying about things. That’s a good thing, because I was starting to freak out about all things baby related. I have next week off for Spring Break, so I’m sure I’ll just sit around worrying to make up for the lack of panicking this week!

Going MIA

Today I’ll be trying to get these:

Until then, you won’t be seeing this:

I know, I look glorious in the morning. Hope y’all have a great day! See ya when I see ya. 🙂

A Contradictory Day + A Workout

Yesterday morning, after a concert, race, and wedding, I was worn out. Ryne dropped me off at my parents’ house after breakfast, and I treated myself to a few hours by their pool. It was one of those days where the sun kept hiding behind the clouds, but it was still really nice to just lounge around after such a full weekend!

My mom and sister even brought lunch home for me after they went shopping. Talk about an easy afternoon! I had half a Mediterranean Veggie Sandwich and Greek Salad from Panera.

Unfortunately, my day of laziness ended there. I had to go home and give Buddy a bath, clean the bathrooms, and wash dishes. Oh well, it was nice while it lasted! I did take a break to take a long walk through the neighborhood, so at least I got my exercise in. I’m considering that one of the biggest accomplishments of my life.

Today I woke up really groggy. I guess I can’t shake off late nights the way I used to. Work was a little hellish tough. Since today also happens to be a rest day for me (thank goodness!), I thought I’d share my go-to lower body workout in case someone out there is trying to get moving today.

I know it says no equipment required, but I usually use at least a bar for the squats. For some reason, it helps me keep my balance. I keep meaning to pick up some resistance bands, but my brain isn’t quite working right now! Also, the number of sets vary, because my energy levels vary! 😉 Remember, if you are expecting, it’s very important to listen to your body. I’m learning as I go, but I’m slowly starting to tell that I need to make modifications to some of my favorite moves! (I know this workout doesn’t sound too difficult, but my big ol’ belly sure makes it challenging.)

If you are a mom or mom-to-be, what were/are your favorite pregnancy workout moves? I need suggestions. 🙂

Wedding Fun + Sweat to Street

Yesterday evening Ryne and I attended a wedding with our friends Cayce and Steven. Ryne and Steven played baseball with the groom, so Heather and Ken’s wedding was a small college reunion. 🙂 The wedding reception was held at Savannah Rapids (the same place where we raced earlier in the day).

Dinner was buffet-style, so I definitely took advantage. Veggies and cheese for me, please! I didn’t realize the pasta had sausage in it until I got to the table. Bummer.

Fruit for dessert. (I also snuck a piece of cake later, too!)

We got stuck tucked away in the corner, because we took too long to snag a table. Lesson learned. Cayce, Steven, and the rest of the table entertained us, though.

Our table was also conveniently located directly beside the bar. Maybe it wasn’t an accidental spot, after all. I had fun watching everyone! I did get a virgin drink, so I felt nice and festive. (I’d be lying if I said virgin drinks are “just as good”.)

Time to get the garter!

If you recognize this person, you’ve seen my wedding reception photos. Apparently, Gary is a pro at catching garters. He caught mine, too!

Around midnight, we headed home. Another late night for this old pregnant lady. This morning, I deserved pancakes! We went to the Sunrise Grill, and I had sweet potato pancakes with cinnamon and sugar. I also had two scrambled eggs. I obviously wasn’t hungover, but my breakfast would have told you otherwise. I devoured it!

Late Night Fun, Early Morning Run

Last night, Ryne and I went to see Zac Brown! It was so much fun to sing along with our favorite songs. It was even more fun to watch all the drunk people  jamming out all night. It’s so entertaining (and hilarious) to be a sober people-watcher sometimes. Put it this way, everyone was having a blast!

Baby M also really enjoyed himself last night! He moves around a lot anyway, but last night he was out of control. I’m assuming it had to do with the loud music… is that possible?! I swear, he freaked out during every single song with a lot of bass. There was a rap song between sets at one point and he seemed to love it. My little gangsta baby!

A few scenes from the evening… (We were much closer to the stage last time, but they have grown much more popular than they were then!)

Throughout the evening, Ryne enjoyed a few beers. I decided I should grab a beverage and some fries for myself.

Yes, you’re right, that isn’t me tearing into my fries. (He did share with me, but c’mon really? Momma was hungry!)

We didn’t end up making it home from Columbia until about 1 am. I was out the minute my head hit the pillow! This morning, I was so tired and it showed. I barely have eyes in this picture. After taking a quick picture, Logan, Ryne, and I hopped in the car and headed over to Augusta, GA to run a small 5k. The Beautiful Feet 5k Walk/Run was held in Savannah Rapids. We didn’t exactly plan our arrival well, and we ended up walking up to the race a few minutes after it started. No big deal. We’re cool like that.

The race was flat and scenic, so it was perfect for me right now. Logan ran ahead of us and PR’d, and Ryne hung back and jogged with me. At one point, Ryne walked next to me as I jogged. I’m blaming his extremely long legs. I was actually able to jog the entire time and am so proud of myself! I didn’t think it was possible, because I’ve been taking a lot of walking breaks lately. We don’t have an “official” time since we were late, but some quick math put us at 37 minutes. I’m totally okay with that number. Hey, I’m carrying an extra 25 pounds! 🙂

After the race, which was held by a local church, we stuck around for the awards (and also the snacks).  We assumed that they would announce the winners and everyone would head home, but the church had put together an awesome raffle for participants. It was such a great idea! It was so fun to see people winning gift baskets, gift cards, pies (yes, even baked goods!), and other fun prizes. I ended up getting lucky and winning a Road ID gift card. I just ordered the slim ID bracelet in pink. So ready for it to get here! I added the quote “Run Far, Run Pretty”… oh yeah, reppin’ my little blog!

We’ve already talked about running the race again next year. The people were extremely friendly, dogs and strollers are allowed, and the raffle at the end was a great touch!

Now I’m relaxing before heading out to find some sandals for a wedding tonight. Yes, I procrastinate. Let’s hope I find some comfy shoes for dancing. The belly is going to be out and about again tonight. 😉 It’s been a long time since we’ve had a weekend as busy as this. I’m loving it!
