Ryne and I have to stay out of our house today, because my friend Logan is throwing us a baby shower here today. I can’t wait! She has been working so hard and I know it’s going to be a blast. It’s co-ed, which makes it even better.
Speaking of baby showers, I had a great one thrown for me by a family friend last Sunday. It was small, but Baby M received a ton of great stuff!
Nothing like a solo picture. It’s always awkward to pose alone or with an inanimate object (cake!)
There is nothing quite like shower food! It’s always so good. Why is that?
Spinach dip, pimento cheese, carrots, fruit, and chocolate covered strawberries. You better believe I went back for cake.
Another great type of shot? The always beautiful present-opening pictures.
I know. I should be a model. Anyway, have you ever heard of a whirlpool bath and shower for a baby? Yeah, me either, but Baby M will have one! What a spoiled child already… I can already picture him chillaxing in his baby hot tub. Ahh, so cute. It makes me realize that I would spend ridiculous amounts of money on baby things. That market totally suckers people in. I can’t even believe some of the things I’ve considered buying for him. Babies don’t need that much stuff, yet entire stores are devoted to them. Man, people are suckers for kids. I love it!
Oh, and if by chance you are wondering where I have been lately… we’ve been slowly starting to decorate the house. It’s such a pain in my you-know-what. The sad thing is, I’m annoyed with it and I haven’t actually done much of it. Lazy pregnant lady, right here. I pretty much just over-see the projects. Which really means I play on my phone while randomly looking up and saying “yup, looks great!”
Hopefully I can start blogging more, but really there isn’t much for me to share! I feel like this blog is really a running/sometimes-cooking/exercising blog, but my life is definitely not the same as it was when I started posting. I don’t think “today I walked around” and “today I jogged, but it was really more of a waddle” are sufficient workout posts, so I never really know what to write! I think I’m dangerously close to boring y’all to death each time I hit “publish.” I can’t wait to share post baby workouts! Is it sad I’m already excited for that?
I hope y’all have a fun Saturday! What are your plans? I need y’all to keep me up-to-date, because I rarely have time for my Google Reader right now! 😦
I can’t believe we are 30 weeks! Hitting a number that begins with a “3” seems like a huge milestone. We’re getting down to the final stretch! 🙂
What is baby up to? According to MSN Health, “Now weighing about 3 pounds (1,400 grams) and measuring about 10.8 inches (27 cm) from crown to rump, your baby continues to gain weight and layers of fat. This fat makes the baby look less wrinkly and will help provide warmth after birth. In preparation for respiration after birth, your baby will mimic breathing movements by repeatedly moving the diaphragm. Your baby can even get the hiccups, which you may feel as rhythmic twitches in your uterus.” I can definitely feel his hiccups. They feel like little thumps that happen at perfect intervals. I wonder if hiccups are as annoying to him as they are to everyone else. If he doesn’t like them, that sucks. He gets them all the time.
Total Weight Gain: Unknown. Probably 29-30.
My Body: …is killing me. I’m experiencing what must be a return of morning sickness. In the first trimester, I felt sick if I didn’t snack all day. Now, eating anything bigger than a few bites makes me sick. I still have my bellybutton (okay, I have what I am claiming is still my bellybutton), but I’m getting a few little marks here and there. I’m okay with them, but I hope they don’t turn into full on stretch marks. But you know what they say: “you can hope in one hand and…” What a gross expression.
Maternity Clothes: Six more weeks until summer vacation. Which means six more weeks until I wear nothing but underwear and/or pajamas all day. I’m really looking forward to that.
Cravings: Everything I see. Everything. I even have random cravings for meat… until I picture cooking it. Then I change my mind. I have been digging this lately:
Vanilla Ice Cream with Blue Pop Italian Ice on top. Deliciousssss.
Sleep: Yep, still no sleep.
Baby Items Bought/Received: I had my first baby shower last Sunday, so we picked up quite a few goodies. I’ll post about that tomorrow! Ryne and I also bought some more things for the nursery, but I’m going to save that for a final revealing! I think it’s going to come together quite nicely.
Best Baby Moment: No “best moment” this week, but I have really been enjoying the extra strong movements lately. It’s almost like I can see him now. I know that sounds weird, but he feels like he is right up against my skin. I actually got self-conscious the other day because I know people could see him moving. It was strange.
Goals: In the next few weeks, I want to get everything ready. I need to get his crib and bedding put together, his clothes in drawers, a hospital bag packed, and other little things like that. I know it seems early, but I hear anything can happen in the next few weeks!
Worries: “Anything can happen in the next few weeks!” Enough said.
I’ve been out of it lately. I feel like I’ve had SO much to do… and not enough time to do it. I also haven’t been feeling well. I’ll be 30 weeks tomorrow, and my body is not adjusting well to being this far along. It almost feels like morning sickness all over again! Nice. Anyway, now that I’ve complained (promise I’ll stop! sometime.), I’ll finally recap Saturday’s events in Hilton Head.
Saturday, I woke up and made a lackluster continental breakfast. Fruit with an everything bagel and cream cheese. Boring, but it served its purpose. I used the hotel room kitchen to make Ryne eggs and bacon. Lucky dude, I tell ya.
After breakfast, we headed to the beach! We went rather early, so we were some of the first people out there. We got a prime spot. (In your face, old people. We even beat you!)
Baby M was feeling rather full of himself. He requested hundreds of pictures of himself. Okay, okay. That was me. I had to get a decent shot of my rear end. It was looking super frumpy. Not a fan.
We took a nice little stroll along the beach and found a message in a bottle. Seriously. And whoever wrote it, was very into it. It was a little creepy. I felt weird putting it back in the ocean, but we didn’t have the heart to trash it. Either that or we were just lazy.
Lunch time! I
forced politely asked everyone to join me for lunch at The Market Street Cafe. It’s one of my favorite places to eat in HHI, so I wasn’t going to miss out on this trip. I tried something new, and it was delicious! I had the Sauteed Veggie Delight Pita Wrap and added shrimp and feta. It already had provolone, but one cheese is never enough (I mean, let’s be real). The small cup on the side is potato salad. I don’t know what they put in there, but we all agreed it was on point! Potato crack, for real.
After lunch we headed back to the beach and met up with our friends Cayce and Steven. We stayed out until around 4, when it started to drizzle. We went back to our hotel and freshened up for dinner. (Why yes, we went on vacation just to eat.) We chose Hudson’s and it didn’t disappoint. When we first pulled up, we almost backed out. From the front, it looks a little outdated. The dockside tables made up for it, though!
It was too pretty not to take a few photos! I’m sure the guys loved having to wait to order dinner. They are probably used to all the picture-taking by now.
Time for dinner! How cute is the menu? It’s printed like a little newspaper.
The boys got oysters for their appetizer, so I ordered a spinach salad with caramelized pears, strawberries, and feta. Definitely a good choice, and not something that most “seafood” restaurants would have!
There were two of these mountains at our table that night. I’m not a mathematician, but that has to be about a million oysters.
It was almost pitch black dark at our table by the time we ate our meals. I had shrimp cocktail and some fries. Random, I know. I’m sure the darkness was meant to be “cool” or “romantic”, but I couldn’t really see my food. A flashlight would have been nice. I’m super weird about eating outside (hello, BUGS)… so I would have liked to see what I was eating. It was still a really great meal, though.
After dinner, we drove to the Triangle. We went into a bar called One Hot Mama’s. Kinda funny. People were probably looking at me like I took the name a little too literally. Definitely the only preggo in the bar. Classy.
When we got back to the room, everyone was taking apple pie shots and snacking. Cayce and Steven bought me a belated birthday present out of the hotel vending machine. Mmm, Riblets.
Joking. That’s absolutely disgusting. I went for the Reese’s Ice Cream. So good.
One thing I do want to mention about this trip, is that I had a lot of body image issues. None of my clothes seemed to fit correctly. The camera kept making my ass look terrible (yes, it was the camera’s fault). I couldn’t stop fussing with my bathing suit while we were at the beach.
I was hyper aware of how I looked the entire trip. The sad thing is, I really thought I was over those feelings. I even posted about the importance of loving your body recently. Well, it’s easier said than done. This weekend taught me that no matter how many positive steps you take toward feeling good about yourself, those negative thoughts can still creep in. I learned that I need to actively work at staying positive. After all, I can’t workout at the same intensity that I used to… so how can I expect parts of me to look the same? I’ve just got to do the best I can. Someone remind me of that daily, please. 🙂
Tomorrow I’ll be 30 weeks! I can’t even believe it. Even though I’m feeling like crap, I’m still really excited for this milestone. Can’t wait to post my 30 week update…
Hope y’all are having a great Wednesday!
Yesterday after our doctor’s appointment, we picked up our friends Jake and Kayla and headed to Hilton Head Island. Is there anything better than finally seeing water? I still get excited!
Before we drove to our hotel, we stopped at the outlets. My pre-shopping fuel of choice was a peach smoothie from Panera Bread. Can I just say that this straw was ridiculous? Not a fan. The smoothie was good, though!
Shopping while you’re pregnant is a little bit of a let down. You can’t really buy anything! I found some headbands, because that’s the only part of my body that isn’t enormous right now. 🙂 I actually just wanted to look at baby clothes, but I figured that nobody else was really on board for that. Some other time, right? After our little shopping trip, we finally arrived at the hotel.
We are staying at the Park Lane Hotel & Suites. The rooms are great for the price. No complaints here. We are staying in a Queen Loft Room, so we have a sofa bed, kitchen, dining area, and full bathroom downstairs and a queen bed and full bathroom upstairs. Pretty cute. The best part is definitely the kitchen, though! If we were staying longer, we’d definitely get more use out of it.
Our first stop was Coligny Plaza and the Frosty Frog Cafe.
The Frosty Frog is a frozen daiquiri bar, and most of them are already pre-mixed with alcohol. Everyone (except for me) picked their poison. I skipped the drinks, because I heard this little rumor that you shouldn’t drink while you’re pregnant. Total bummer.
I watched some golf while they got their drink on. We went to the Masters last weekend and now we are in Hilton Head for the Heritage. We can’t escape it!
But don’t assume I was bored, I had plenty of entertainment.
After walking around Coligny, we decided to find some dinner! We wanted to go somewhere we hadn’t been before, so we asked a local. She directed us towards Captain Woody’s. She didn’t disappoint us! But before I get into dinner, let me just tell you that “baby brain” is no joke. I was in charge of driving, so I found a place to park. Somehow I parked, put the e brake on, and we all headed in to the restaurant. Small problem though: I left the keys in the ignition and the car running. I’m a champ!
Through some miracle, we found a much closer spot and Ryne ran to the car to move it. When he drove back up his face was priceless. I know he’s proud of me… (side note: I “held” our parking spot while he got the car. That’s probably against parking lot etiquette, but what can ya do? I’m classy.)
Okay, back to the restaurant…
We had a short wait until we could be seated, so we headed out back to a tiki bar. It was awesome. There was the best assortment of characters for people watching. Bikers were mingling with golf fans in town for the Heritage. Yes, an amazing show ensued. There was a lot of yelling, hugging, and dancing. The tiki bar trifecta.
Then it was time to get our grub on! The house salad was actually pretty good! There were even green and red peppers up in there. Usually, house salads suck. Just sayin’.
The boys shared raw and steamed oysters. I don’t have the guts to try them!
Ryne and I shared Kickin’ Camarones (ponzu shrimp) and crab legs with a side of fries. No veggies in sight! Might have to work on that tomorrow. I thought about subbing fries for veggies, but c’mon let’s be real… We’re on vacation.
So, my 29 week baby update was a premonition of the end of our meal. I said I was dressed like a ninja, and I totally ninja chopped our crab shells on to the floor. If Ryne wasn’t proud of my parking skills, he was definitely claiming me at this point. I’m a winner.
Right now we’re relaxing on the beach! I may or may not resemble a beached sea creature. I’ll let your imagination decide. 🙂 If that doesn’t scare you enough, I’ll leave you with this gem. Here I am last night in all my lazy-eyed glory. How did Ryne get so lucky?!
My parents took us out to dinner for my birthday last night. We chose to eat at French Market Grille in Augusta. Like always, I completely stuffed my face and complained for the next few hours. I’m a joy, I’m sure.
This morning we headed to the doctor’s office to catch up on some reading. Honestly, why do they schedule appointments a million years before they actually see you?
And now we are headed to Hilton Head Island! Can’t wait! I hear there will be some whale spotting this weekend. Yes, I’m referring to myself. 🙂
(By the way, I’m blogging off of my phone. I know you appreciate the iPhone pictures. I’m basically a professional photographer.)
What are y’all doing this weekend? Whatever it is, have a great one!
Happy 29 Weeks, Baby M! 11 weeks to go! Today I turned 24, so I guess we both have something to celebrate. My birthday seems a little less important this year, though, now that I’m waiting for the most important “birth day” of my life!
(Nice outfit, right? I look like a pregnant ninja.)
What is baby up to? According to MSN Health, “The senses your baby will use to learn about the world are developing daily. Taste buds have started to form on the tongue, and the brain and nerve endings are formed enough so that the fetus can feel touch. Your baby may experiment with this newfound sense of touch by stroking his or her face or sucking on a thumb, as well as feeling other body parts and seeing how they move.” I hope he’s sucking his thumb right now, because that is adorable. 🙂
Total Weight Gain:I’ve officially gained 28 1/2 pounds. I’m on pace to gain about 40 total I suppose. I really didn’t think I’d break 30 when I got pregnant. Oh, how naive I was. 😉 I just hope I can lose it!
My Body: Everything still feels really tight. I don’t know how to really explain it. It’s like he is growing, but my belly isn’t catching up! I still have my bellybutton, don’t have any visible stretch marks or lines, and have had no swelling. I think I’ve had a few contractions, but I could just be paranoid. I wouldn’t put it past me to totally invent it in my head.
Maternity Clothes: I’ve been repeating outfits like it is my job! I love the weekends, though, because I can wear dresses. I cannot wait until the end of the school year. I’m not putting on any pants after that! (That sounds weird, but you get my drift.)
Cravings: I think it is safe to say that my lemon, hot sauce, and peanut butter cravings are here to stay. Also add everything else to that list. I’m a lean, mean eating machine. No aversions what-so-ever.
Sleep: Huh? What? It seems like every week there is something preventing me from sleeping. Now it’s soccer-style kicks to the ribs at all hours of the night. So much fun.
Baby Items Bought/Received: A few more onesies and things like that. I’ve already washed two full loads of baby clothes. We haven’t had any showers or purchased anything ourselves yet. How does this baby have so much to wear already?! We’ve also been working on the nursery, so we’ve bought a ton of painting supplies. Does that count?
Best Baby Moment: I really got excited when we started working on the nursery. That definitely tops the list this week! I can picture him playing in there when he’s older, and it makes me an emotional wreck. He hasn’t even made his debut, and I already don’t want him to grow up. I’m ridiculous.
Goals: Finish the nursery! I need decorations, a glider, a changing pad, and a few other small things. For the most part, we’re set. (We’re set nursery-wise, definitely not baby item wise. We haven’t bought any diapers, bottles, or other essentials. We work backwards, people.)
Worries: Diapers! Bottles! What kind? What brand? How many? But seriously, suggestions are welcome. 🙂
